Tubular Sheathed Elements

Construction and Bending

The element is made up of four basic components - the sheath material - the resistance coil - the insulation - the resistance coil cold end pins.

The Sheath Material depends on the corrosive properties and operating Temperature of the material being heated.

The Coil normally of 80/20 nickel chrome alloy this is selected by the resistance, i.e. the required wattage and voltage of the element.

The Insulation forms an electrical protective barrier between the coil and the sheath.

The Cold End Pins are either end of the element. The selection of the correct cold end is very important as they :

• Influence the watts density of the element.
• Most not end in bend.
• Must not end above minimum liquid level.
• Most not end in any insulation on the wall container.

The metal sheathed element is relatively flexible and can be formed to most shapes best suited for the particular installation. Whilst fully annealed straight elements are available to order, it is recommended that the elements be bent by Heating Elements.

When designing a shape the customer should try to keep to the largest possible bending diameters.
